"at a dead stop, the tire patch is very large, therefore more grip to get the car moving..." according to accepted physics and the formula for frictional force, that is not true. the normal force (Fn) is constant (the weight of the car is not changing), and the coefficient of friction is the same (assuming you are using the same tire compound).
